Ah, well. My last day off. I'm so, so, SO happy I asked for these two days off in addition to last week, because otherwise, I think I may have died. You can read about the move in rahirah's journal; amidst my aches and pains and bruises, I know only that sillymagpie is now beholden to me, bwa ha ha. {big grin} I did, however, come to the conclusion that once one is past 40, it's time to stop moving like a college student. Forty-plus boxes of books, ai! But it's mostly done now, and this weekend we'll move it all into the shed. At least there's no more stairs!

I have two reviews due on Friday; one I haven't listened to at all, so that's something I'll have to do this week. I haven't written a single word of fiction in well over a week. But I'm headachy and body-achy, so I may spend a good part of the evening laying in a hot tub and getting ready to go back to work tomorrow.

I have decided I'm going to Albuquerque; it looks like I can get a pretty good deal for a round-trip flight for rahirah and I for just overnight, and it'll save us about 28 hours of driving time (both ways). The prize money for even first place (which I'm not expecting, just hoping for) won't cover the cost of the plane tickets, but what the hey.

I cannot even begin to say how highly I recommend Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I have about six chapters to go, but wow, what a great story. It started slow, but once it gets going, it's hard to set down (even in Las Vegas).

My mom found my bag in the trunk and I have everything back now, hooray. The bad news is I gained six pounds this week; and dang it, it takes more than one week to lose it all again. Phooey. Back to the diet, and really seriously, until my birthday.

On that topic, Cinnabon is making cookies now. They're really good.

Twenty-eight hours of driving doesn't sound fun. Whereas a short flight to Albuquerque to an awards dinner sounds like lots of fun.

I really wouldn't mind the drive, provided I were staying longer. But there-and-back again in 24 hours? Blargh. :)

So flying sounds like much more fun.

So when is Albuquerque? I want to be sure to cross my fingers at the appropriate time.

Mmmm, cookies.

I am deeply, deeply, deeply beholden. Truly I am. I also have to remember to take plenty of ibuprofen before I go to bed, because otherwise I am vaguely awake into the wee hours of the morning because my stupid knees ache. I have decided three things: (1) third-floor apartments are bad, (2) I am nowhere near as young as I used to be (and probably never was), (3) there is a lot to be said in favor of electronic books.

Today I've been having a weird histamine reaction on my inner arms and the back of my hands. I have no idea what is causing it. I've washed hands and arms in the same soap I've been using. It is strange to me.

I think the Mark Twain book is kaput. Pages are falling out as fast as they dry. Otherwise, I think the other books will be warped but fine. Sigh. Ma Nature: What can you do?

I discovered even some of the "dry" ones may not be -- that chocolate book I took home appears to have still had some water inside it, because the old catalog that it was laying on overnight is now all wrinkled as though IT got wet, so I think it absorbed something. Hopefully all will be well with any of the rest!

I seem to be much older than I thought I was, too. Oy, my aching... body! :) My left leg is rapidly turning into one large bruise.

I think the books will be okay as long as they don't mold. (cross fingers)

I have bruises all over, scratches where there aren't bruises, and sunburn on the scratches. I also have a bit of allergic hives or something on my inner arms and the backs of my hands. I look absolutely loverly. Oi.

From my knees down, my legs hate me and may never forgive. What I need is a powerful robot exoskeleton for heavy lifting and propulsion jets to fly up to apartment landings. Preferably one that is also a combo washer/dryer.

I have kinda sorta almost caught up on things online by dint of skimming. I must take ibuprofen and sleep.

{crossed fingers}

Yep. Sleep well, sir. And congrats again. :)

And really, Where is the damn ice cream?!
Aug. 5th, 2005 12:11 pm (UTC)
I have a little in the freezer, but I must make some more. :)
