Imagine that!

Quoted from the NY Times:

The Pentagon - faced with using only volunteers during a sustained conflict, an effort rarely tried in American history - is especially vexed by a generation of more activist parents who have no qualms about projecting their own views onto their children.

Parents who project their own views on their children. Hmmm. Will wonders ever cease?

Happy Friday to all. I love me these short weeks. I'm afraid I may have to try and get up early tomorrow to get fresh Dunkin' Donuts. Curse you, Red Baron! (i.e., rahirah)

Tomorrow I may make lime curd, since we have all these limes. Yum. But first I must clean the kitchen.

Mmm, lime curd... the word "curd" has gotten such a bad reputation... but curds are good! Keeps me distracted from the reality of fuckup-edness that is Iraq.

Seriously, if you do lime curd, post your recipe, 'K?

I'm too fond of cheese to dislike the word "curd."

Will do. It's mostly Alton Brown's recipe, I just use limes instead of lemons.

Ooh, looking forward to it! BTW, have you ever cooked w/ Thai ("kaffir") limes? they have funky convoluted rinds.

Many of the Thai recipes I've tried call for kaffir lime LEAVES, but I've never been able to find them, even in our local Asian market; I've never seen the limes, either (or maybe I have and didn't realize they were limes!). I'll have to take another look the next time we're at the Ranch Market.

Oh, yeah, I've only been able to find the leaves once. The fruit themselves are bizarre looking--kind of like a cross between a lime and a brain. I want to plant a tree.

Huh. I may have to do a special trip and find them. Most citrus does pretty well down here, so I wouldn't be surprised to find them in someone's farmers market sale or something.

My activist mom enforced her views of the world on my butt with a flyswatter.

Curse her, Red Baron, indeed!
I totally blame rahirah for my inability to resist picking up Top Pot donuts today...
