Long trips and good folks

Last night sillymagpie and I drove down to Tucson to see a local singer we see at least once a month up here. It turned out to be very worth it, though, because Dave's brother (Dave being the Scottsdale boy) Mark was there, Mark being a Tucson boy, and also Andy Hershey, a REMARKABLE performer from Patagonia. WOW, what a great show. Good venue, too. Those who live in the southern part of the state should do themselves a favor and look Andy up. Not to mention going to the Vaudeville Club on Wednesdays for Mark's "Arizona's Most Wanted" show. Mark's a gritty roots-rock player who picks a mean guitar.

However, this meant driving back home to Phoenix after the show, which ended at about 1 am. Pretty typical, really, considering the show started at about 9:20 and all three guys did a solid set. We met Andy and sillymagpie bought his CDs, we said so long to Mark, found out Andy was coming up our way NEXT Wednesday to play out at Tempe's Yucca Tap Room (normally we don't go to the weekday shows at the Tap Room, but we may make an exception this time), and then headed home. Stopped at Toltec to stretch, wake up, and buy more Diet Coke con lima (I'm a big ol' ho for the con lima), and then made it home about 3:20, so I was in bed by 3:30.

Cuervo wanted in at 6:30. rahirah got up about 7. Cuervo wanted in, wanted out, wanted in again. Cairo dragged down a bag of dice (roleplayers understand this problem) off rahirah's bureau, which sounded to a half-sleeping mind like a disaster untold, so I jerked completely awake. I did, however, fall deeply asleep just after rahirah left, for a few hours, until Cairo wanted in (Cuervo was sleeping on the bed, but having been woken by Cairo, the two double-teamed me). Although it was only 9:30 and I was still exhausted, I was awake, so here I am, wiping out email and catching up on LJ.

typographer has a friends meme in his journal that's totally cool, but he's got so many friends the collage has made my friends page too wide to read, so I have to scroll back and forth.

I have a massive bruise on my right hand that I have no memory of getting, but God knows I bang this hand on everything I pass, so something hit just right.

I have three reviews to finish by tomorrow and my brain is sludge. I want to write about Mark, Dave, and Andy. But first, Billy Don Burns & Porter Wagoner. I haven't even listened to the second Porter disc. {heavy sigh}

I'm still in love with Tucson. It's where most of the culture in the state went to live (not to mention it's the "bluest" part of the state, full o'them weird lefty liberals). There was a freebie magazine at the club listing all the downtown events for February. Lots of cool music, museums, shows, etc. Phoenix is TRYING to get there, but tends to get mired down in the highbrow, really expensive touring stuff rather than local quality, with the exception of places like The Rhythm Room.

Once again I'm ruining your life. *sigh*

Well, while you were having all that musical fun, I cut about 100 words out of a scene.... I didn't add any new ones to the story, just cut.

{big grin}

You're a better man than I; I can never cut words without adding very many more... It's a sickness, I tells ya.

Usually that's what happens. Of course, I wanted to add new, because I have several scenes to finish, yet. Oh, well.

I'd like to toss in something about Andy in my LJ, too, but I am dog-tired. That Diet Coke caught up with me, as predicted. I got home and in bed by 4:00 a.m., but I spent the next several hours with muscular twitches waking me up just as I was about to drop off to sleep. Unfortunately, I was too beat and incoherent to roll out of bed and do something useful. It was sometime after 10:00 a.m. when I finally did fall asleep, and I got up at 2:00 p.m., so I guess I got about four hours of "real" sleep. Bleah. Well, that's what I get for having too much caffeine when I'm not really used to it anymore.

But what an incredible show! I loved everything about it. I may have to put Andy's music on and try to cat nap for a bit, but I think my gauge is probably stuck on "tired" for today.

Glad you had fun! One of the designers I do work for went down for the big gem show there a week or so ago and is still complaining about Tucson...sigh...
