Coming Home

I had just gotten over a minor cold, then came out to Vegas for the semi-annual mother-daughter event and MOM was sick (which doesn't happen often), and just in time for the last day, it hit me. Throat hurts. UGH. At least Mom's feeling better, although I will say that her having a cold did make the nights a lot less busy.

We had a good time, though. Found out they've torn out all the empty space between Imperial Palace/The Quad (whatever it's called now) and put in a really nice shopping area called The LinQ, which includes the new Las Vegas "Eye," the High Roller, which is less a ferris wheel and more of a spinning wheel of nice little cabs which have some really spectacular views. You can hardly tell you're moving, and at night they're stocked with full bars (we went during the day). It's a pretty comfortable ride.

I haven't uploaded all the pictures yet, but here's one of the views:

I had thought the redecoration of Imperial Palace into The Quad was done, but it doesn't look like it -- they're tearing it all to pieces again, and this time it looks like they're going to take off the balconies that had been on the rooms and they're painting the outside all bright colors. I'll be curious to see what it looks like when it's done. I had liked what they'd done with it the last time we were there -- quite a change from the dark labyrinth that had been the Imperial Palace.

And at the LinQ? There is a BEARD PAPA'S, home of the wonderful cream puffs framefolly introduced us to in New York City.

We ate at the sports bar that replaced the lion habitat in MGM. It's almost worth forgiving them for pulling out the lions. The food was pretty spectacular. Best onion rings I think I've ever eaten.

We went to see "Zarkana" again, and I hadn't imagined it - the show does NOT contain (at all) the character the websites all said was the "main character," who still features prominently in all the merchandise. Still a phenomenal show, and much better for not drifting off to sleep through parts of it! (Plus, Mom got us VIP seats up close, where the seating is big soft comfy sofas with space to stretch out, put your drink and snacks, etc.)

I didn't realize that hockey season opened this weekend. The LA Kings (and about four million of their fans) were playing the opening game at MGM on Saturday night. It was a MADHOUSE. (And they lost, which led to a lot of despondency later.) I kid you not, it was a teeming sea of silver-and-black. I think I saw maybe four Avalanche fans. (I think somehow through osmosis I've learned just enough about sports to make people think I actually know what I'm talking about. Honest, I don't. I'm lucky I know what hockey is.)

We got in to do one of those "rate a new show" things at Television City. Just our luck to draw yet another reality show about fishing in Alaska. Seriously? When does this stuff reach maximum saturation? I had been hoping for a new drama or something. Oh, well. It was interesting.

Did some wandering. I'm coming home with more luggage than I left with -- Mom got us some early Christmas presents, so I knew I'd have to get another bag (and since I'm flying Southwest and didn't check anything coming, I figured I could do so easily). Somehow I managed to then totally fill said new bag. Not sure how, I didn't think I bought THAT much. (But I was set loose in Ross, and that's often a Bad Thing. I reined myself in, I didn't buy All The Things, honest.) I'm coming home with money. We didn't win BIG, but we did okay.

Now to go home to my house, my cats, my dog, my wife, and maybe just go to bed.
