Just Once

I'd like to wake up and not feel like ten miles of bad road. My hip's been bothering me again and because it throws off my gait, it makes my knee and foot hurt, too. It's more annoying than debilitating, and because I HAVE had it checked and x-rayed and there's NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, I just power through.

What I need to do is more yoga. That does help.

Up early yesterday and today. Went out Friday night to take Barb out for her birthday, spent far too much on delicious sushi (totally worth it), then watched Gravity and were very, very sorry we had missed it in the theatres (we TRIED, but something always came up, and then it was gone). Amazing picture.

Yesterday went to Home Depot to get more stuff to try and organize the house -- they didn't have the little front-porch shed/storage bin I was looking for, and I came home and checked around online... Amazon has one I like, for the "Prime Price" of $149... oddly, despite saying that "list price" was $205, when I looked at Ace Hardware and the Home Depot sites, they both listed it also for $149. Prime price, my ass. (Plus, since Amazon didn't sell it directly, there was a "4 to 6 week delivery time," whereas if I got it at the Ace site, I could pick it up in-store in seven days.) But I'm still gonna look around and see if I can find something, since it's not EXACTLY what I want, it's just close.

Laundry is mostly done, the bed is airing -- we have come to the conclusion that a very expensive pillow-top mattress is not worth the investment; since you can't flip it, the pillow top DOES start to depress after a while, and in a MUCH shorter time than one might imagine. It started to go a couple years back, but we couldn't justify getting a new mattress after only five years -- but now we've had it long enough, I think, and I can't help but wonder if it's part of my back problems.

I seem to have totally forgotten how to write. It's like there's nothing there anymore. Some writer I am. :P

Sounds like it's all soft tissue then. If yoga helps, that suggests it's tight tissue issues so then I guess yoga and stretching for you. (and time to work it in)

delicious sushi...yum.

Good luck finding the writing groove again.

Yes -- time and me not being so freakin' lazy. (It's the sort of stuff where the doctor just shakes his/her head and says, "Well, you're almost 50." BLAH.)

This place does REALLY amazing sushi. Their salmon sashimi is absolutely mind-meltingly delicious.

Thanks. At least my characters have started popping into my head again...

My writing would do better if I weren't so freakin' lazy. And the house cleaning.

I have a place that does good sushi but sadly NOT amazing (though maybe my pocket book likes that)

well that's good

I wondered that about pillow tops. My current mattresses have 'almost' pillow tops on them, I say 'almost' because they didn't really come out as pillow tops until a few years after I bought my mattresses. However, they can be flipped, and as I bought two of them (twin-size), I've been able to keep them for a long time. However, I'm not looking forward to buying a new mattress (or two) at all, because I've tried pillow tops in stores, and don't like them. Probably because I like hard/firm beds.

Mmm, sushi sounds so good.

Good luck with your porch container. I need a new yard barn, and Lowes has one I like in the price I like, but it's metal, and would need someone besides me to put it together (or someone with me, with tools I don't have).

Yeah, when we've been looking at mattresses now, we pass by the pillow tops. They can be firm, but DAMN. They're expensive and they don't LAST!

What we WANT is a real Temperpedic, but the PRICE....!!!!

This is a GREAT sushi place -- their sashimi is awesome.

Thanks. I HAVE to get it soon -- I'm tired of all the bags of fertilizer and citrus food and so on cluttering up the porch (because it's a pain to drag it all the way to the back).

I think I've had my pair of mattresses around fourteen years. I can tell there's some wear in them, but I'll keep using them for a while yet. Temperpedics are too hot for me. I sat on one and started to melt. I know you can get some sort of gel cover for the top of them, but.

There are a couple of good Japanese style restaurants, and two serve sushi. I've only been to the one, and that was years ago (literally). Generally, when I get sushi, I get it at the buffet, but I've stopped wanting to go there for a while.

Can you get something on wheels or are you going to put this all in the back?

I've not slept on one, I'll admit, but the times when I've laid down on them -- HEAVEN. (Although a lot of money to spend if they DO turn out to be too hot...)

I want the shed/bin for the front porch -- of this general sort.

My Dad had one of the earlier ones, and I slept on it a couple of times (great in the winter), but my sister was talking to a dealer last year about them, and he said they still are hot.

Oh, okay. Yeah, that's about what I need.

That's a definite consideration here, where summer NIGHTS can be in the upper 90's....

They had one quite a bit cheaper at Home Depot (their "HDX" brand), but it got TERRIBLE reviews online, so I started looking around for something better, but the prices (and availability) are putting big thwarts on my attempts.

Good luck in your search for the perfect porch storage, good thoughts for the aches, and hugs!

Hip x-rays don't always have any bearing on what's going on. My x-ray looked plus or minus fine, and I was in agony because the joint was so locked that my surgeon had trouble getting it out of the joint to fix it. He said he's seen people with awful looking x-rays who aren't in any pain and people like me, with pretty normal x-rays and a ton of pain. You could also have soft tissue damage (I had that, too), which an MRI will show.

Well, I do have a pretty complete range of motion, so I don't think it's anything more serious than soft tissue (which is bad enough, really), compounded by weight and inactivity.

I'm due for my checkup; I'll see what my new doctor thinks.
