The day before Friday

It's hard to believe it's December already.

Places I still need to shop at before Christmas:
1) Arizona Mills. I don't really need anything here, but we missed a few things the last time we were there because we went a little late and the place is enormous.
2) Fashion Square. Ditto, although I haven't been there since, I think, last Christmas. We've been receiving, for some reason, the Crate & Barrel catalog and now I want to roam the store and actually look at all the things I can't afford, and MAYBE buy something nifty that I can.
3) Cost Plus. Great import store, another place I tend to shop at once a year anymore. I do so much shopping online anymore I just don't go to stores (other than grocery) much, except at Christmas time.

Another thing Cost Plus has is wine. I've lately started to become interested in wine -- not that I'm an "enthusiast," but there are a few wines I very much enjoy, and as such I've started looking specifically for them, and trying to learn a tiny bit more about the "art" of wine. Alas, one of my VERY favorite wines is sold at stores only in the Seattle area, and while the vineyard will ship to Arizona (I discovered this wine via my wine-enthusiast in-laws), at $18 a bottle plus shipping, it's a little more than I can (or should) shell out for. So I have to try wines I can find around here or that said in-laws will introduce me to, since rahirah doesn't like wine, and I can't drink entire bottles too often.

Okay, I've said it before, but this time I mean it -- it's almost done. For people who really do want to read it, they have to tell me how you want it (i.e., it's a 400+ page WordPerfect document, and my printer is persnickity and makes me hand-feed one page at a time, so I ain't printing it until I have a completed manuscript ready to, gulp, mail to a publisher). I have one more scene to write and I'm giving it a once-over, but I'm still pretty close and I know I'm missing things. But overall, I'm happy with it. :)

I'd like to try some different wines. I finally located my copy of Wine for the Super Beginner, which I picked up on a winery tour in Northern California. That little booklet probably contains all the knowledge about wine that I will ever be able to comprehend.

BTW, I really do want to try one of the ice wines. :-)

As to the masterpiece, I guess I can try to read it on the computer in WP and make my edits in comment mode. I much prefer paper manuscripts because it seems to me that I edit for flow better when I can spread pages out in front of me, but such is life.

Stephen told me about a really good ice wine they tried, but I can't remember everything he told me about, dang it. There is an ice wine at Cost Plus, though, if we want to shell out for it. :)

Well, I can give it to you on a CD, and you can print it (I'll even provide the paper); or you can make me take the CD to Kinko's and print it, which is what I planned to do for the final manuscript.

I'm willing to split the cost of the ice wine with you, if it's not too expensive.

Before we go to Kinko's, let's find out how much printing a document there would cost. I checked their Web site, but rates are the one thing they don't discuss.

Printing at Kinko's is exhorbitant, and they throw up their hands in dismay at the mention of WordPerfect. You'd have to tranfer it to Word format.

Trying to appear non-chalant
You know, if you... mention... the name of the *cough*Seattle-area*cough* wine that you like so much... it might give people ideas for present-like thing... maybe.

Well, um, it's Syncline Wine Cellars, the Chenin Blanc (dessert wine). They have a "where to buy" list here. But honestly, it IS pricy! I should get all my friends in the Seattle area to pitch in together, or something. :)
