50 Shades of Grey

A billboard down on 40th Street has that written on it, along with pictures of a bunch of grey cats. It's for the Adoption shelter just down the block. I love it.

Some nifty things I have seen recently:

Dogs helping cheetahs.

Cat story.

These are amazing.

Last Friday I felt crappy. I should have come home early, but a crisis hit and I felt obliged to stay at work and see it through, and made it to the end of the day. I rested Friday night and felt better Saturday, so Barb and I went out and did things. (Some shopping, some other stuff.) Then Saturday night we opened the Tiki Bar and, somewhere in the midst of the merriment, I started to feel bad again. By the end of the evening, I was dropping. I spent the next two days unable to do much of anything but sit in front of the television and watch Doctor Who and Newsradio. Which meant I called in sick for the first time in more than TWO YEARS, which had to be the first day on my new position. I went back to work on Tuesday and drifted through the next few days in a fuzzy haze, but I made it through today, when coincidentally enough, I went to see my new PCP.

I like her. She conducted the entire Well Woman exam herself, then handed me over to the phlebotomist (a good one, who knew how to take my blood without me passing out), then had an EKG and chest x-ray. She says my foot is probably a neuroma and the beginnings of a hammer toe, and I need to get orthotics (like my podiatrist said I should do years ago) or at least padded insoles. Annoying this happens when I haven't worn bad-for-me high heels in YEARS. She also gave me a prescription for Allegra-D again, so I don't have to sign my life away to get a mere two-week supply (instead can just pay a little extra to get a full 60-day supply! Woot!).

I did manage to lose a few pounds due to disinterest in food the last week, but my new doctor says she's happy with my health, but not my "weight to my height." She wants me to lose weight. Now I have doctor's orders. Let's see if I can actually do it now.

I signed up at Ancestry.com out of curiosity and found both my parents' marriage certificate and a census record my grandfather filled out when my mother was 5 and had only one brother. I need to plug in more information, so I have to call mom and get some more details.

I signed up for Figment.com and entered the Doctor Who writing contest. Now I have two writing blogs and I'm STILL not producing much of anything.

My fortune cookie at the Beijing Garden last night said simply, "Go Shopping." Hmmmm.

Sorry you've been sick and your foot is giving you grief. I loved the cat story, though. And those pictures...! I saved a couple of the creepier ones and may make some icons.

ETA: And that billboard is brilliant!

Yeah, and while I feel better, it just won't let up completely! Ugh. The doctor said it's "probably allergy related," but it doesn't really feel like that -- but she's the doc!

I saved a few of 'em, too -- they're AWESOME. I have to get photoshop loaded onto this computer so I can make icons again.

I hope you're feeling better.

Cheers for cool fortunes and the good things!

Loved the cat and soldier story

Hope you're feeling better.

Neuromas are a pain in the buttocks. they can be injected with steriods to calm them down but yes orthotics will help long term.

I find figment to be interesting.

Yay for entering the Dr. Who contest

Feeling much better now.

Tried just going with sandals today; I have to find a pair of those Skechers sandals (thick, supportive soles) so my toe has room, and see how those go.

I like Figment so far, although there are a lot of emails. I have to get Photoshop back on this computer so I can make myself "covers" for my posts.

that's good

orthotics can slow the progression of the hammer toe but there remains only one cure I'm afraid.

I haven't written a thing FOR Figment. its just too frequent

I'll try open-toed shoes for a while and see if the swelling goes down..... (bad feet am me!)

You write more than I do!

good luck

snort. I just haven't taken off with any of their suggestions. I tried one, took to long (I have never looked to see if there's a time limit on these)

I'm not much of a prompt writer. (And my goodness, the constrictions! 1200 words, indeed!)

I should check them, though. Maybe get some inspiration. I have put together those two unfinished Nanos, now maybe I can FINISH it... It'll probably the next thing I send to Links.

I am a prompt writer but I didn't even see that constriction! I never would have made that.

Eh if nothing else, I let it give me ideas and just use them in my longer works.

good luck on putting those together. I'm trying to finish my last nano for this camp nano and I'm busy writing the story that's eating my brain. I wouldn't mind giving it to Link (making the sex parts optional since I'm betting several won't want to read m/m sex)

That was the limit for the Doctor Who contest, anyway. It wasn't easy.

no, limits that short aren't ever easy
