Second Day

I'm not really in Dallas. Seems this is really Irving. (Which is in many ways similar to how Chandler is in Phoenix.) Lunch today was Subway. (We didn't drive very far -- we plan to rectify that this week, honest.)

It's interesting, and the day went quickly. Plenty to learn and lots to observe. No stress or pressure. Everyone seems to take it for granted I'm going to be heading this team -- which pleases me -- but it's not exactly what I expected. Have to see how we find ways to do it when it rolls out in our own office.

Not as cold today, and it's supposed to warm up this week, so I may be able to get away without buying copious amounts of new clothing (yay).

Hornsby's Hard Cider is not as good as Wood Chuck, but it's all they had at Wal-Mart.

Best costume EVER.

Looks like the Texas State Fair is going on. I wish I could get over there, I'd love to get a picture of Big Tex. (Although the theme of State Fair, i.e., worst musical ever, is now running through my head...) There is also Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll (I'm not kidding). Also: Deep Fried Jambalaya, Chicken Fried Cactus Bites, Deep-Fried Divine Chocolate Tres Leches Cake, and Deep Fried Mac-N-Cheese Sliders. And Buffalo Chicken in a Flap Jack (on a stick).

There is everything in this suite kitchen except a conventional (or even toaster) oven, and this pizza, damn it, says it's best with a conventional oven. Well, it'll just have to do with a microwave.

I actually want to see the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza (I'm flipping through the "things to do" guide here in the room).

If I just had the patience, I'd make that costume. That rocks.

That is an amazing costume. Thank you for sharing it!

Someone linked to it on the Bloggess's latest post, and it was too awesome not to share!

It is quite cool.

I'm glad you're having a decent time in your training!

You do not exaggerate...best.costume.EVER! Woo! /TGIF

You totally needy some Deep-Fried Divine Chocolate Tres Leches Cake. Okay, I totally needy some.

Hope you get a chance to sight see.

Chocolate tres leches alone sounds amazing, and then add the deep fry part...!!!

That costume is un-fucking-believable! And I want that bacon cinnamon roll and the cactus bites. Om-nom-nom.

I know -- amazing craftsmanship, and yet, really, SO easy! If I only had the time and the materials, I'd be so tempted to try it!

I know, right? Bacon cinnamon roll.... mmmmmmm....

So easy?! LOL! I skimmed through those directions thinking how incredibly complex the whole thing was.
Oct. 9th, 2012 11:35 pm (UTC)
Okay, RELATIVELY easy, considering the finale! All stuff from Goodwill or laying around the house, nothing extra special to buy, etc.

that is the best costume ever

and i think that bacon fried cinnamon roll won a contest. Andy Zimmern had it on. I would be at the fest eating all the things (then dying)

Yes, the article mentioned it as the winner of the "Most Creative." The deep-fried jambalaya won for "Best Taste." I want to eat it all, too (I think death would then be the only option for most of us!).

but what a way to go

Bo says hello. He's very busy pacing and whining because I'm too dumb to notice that you're gone. *g*

Well, we humans are not very observant, you know. We never seem to be able to speak plain dog. <3

Big Tex TALKS, too. The Fried Jambalaya won the "New Fried Food" prize this year, IIRC.

Enjoy the weather!

I'm glad things are going well, hopefully the team leader thing comes with perks besides just the responsibility. :D

Yes, because, alas, the movie version of "State Fair" will never leave my brain. (It really is absolutely the worst Rogers & Hammerstein musical EVER, but it was actually shot at the Texas State Fair!)

An actual promotion would come with more money and a "specialist" title -- but so far, it's only been more responsibility! :D

I'd argue that Carousel is worse. And now "Our state fair is a great state fair" is in my head, too. Dammit.
Oct. 9th, 2012 11:37 pm (UTC)
Well, Carousel is dated and has the vile anti-women undercurrent, true; however, the MUSIC is far, far superior in every way to the songs from "State Fair," which includes an ode to a prize-winning pig...
