Happy Hobbit Day

By some serendipitous twist of fate, I finished a re-read of The Hobbit on Thursday and started re-reading The Lord of the Rings on Friday, just in time for Frodo and Bilbo's birthday today. It had been so long since I read The Hobbit it was like a brand-new book in some spots. Although it did make me wonder how in God's name Peter Jackson plans to make it into a freaking TRILOGY when he crammed the entire Lord of the Rings into three movies. I thought it was going to be just one movie, but when I heard "the Hobbit trilogy" it boggled my mind. How the money rolls in, eh?

Well, today was fraught, and I am for the first time contemplating taking down a journal post, which is something I've never done before -- after all, the whole point of this journal is to document my life, and keep it in sequence, all the things that happened, good and bad. But... (please see rahirah's journal).

Anyway, so it goes. It feels depressing around here now. The cats seem happy, though.

This article made me very happy. For any man who thinks liking cats is "girly," I offer Ernest Fucking Hemingway.

This has been making the rounds, and I want to make one!!!

Plenty of wonderful Pond goodness in this week's Doctor Who, and a big ol' happy squee for Kate (Lethbridge) Stewart -- just gave me a wonderful sniffle of gladness.

So, why won't anyone tell me what the deal is between S3 and S4 of Eureka?

You really ought to rescue that cat. I worry about it. We have a lot of stray cats in the neighborhood now, but someone leaves out food and water for them, and there AREN'T coyotes this far into the inner city, so they mostly seem all right (we see the same bunch every evening on our walks).

It's dropped into the low 100's, at least -- and is supposed to go into the 90's this week; it's at least dropping into the 70's overnight! Woot, woot. We haven't turned off the air conditioning yet. I've done a little baking, but I'm still working on the "low carb" thing (down nearly 20 pounds, almost back to "wedding weight"!), so it'll be a few more weeks before I do more! But I've discovered I love to stir a little jam into plain yogurt to make a lovely fruit dish!

One of my favorite pictures of my father, who always claimed to "hate cats," is of him with Leroy, one of our Siamese, who LOVED Dad and Made Him His Own. Leroy turned Dad into a cat lover. :)

I love Henri, the cat of ennui.

I've been working at it since the top of July, though (and broke off a little because DAMN, it's hard not to eat bread). I want to be at my target weight for my next cruise.

Well, counter with the "morals" of letting a small kitten run around loose in a dangerous place! I suppose I see his point, though. Danged taboo about stealing, anyway.

Yeah, it's like 105 today, sort of like autumn hasn't even started.

I have no idea how the hobbit can become 3 movies but it makes me A LOT less likely to go see them.

I am sorry about Felix.

and I'd tell you if I could remember what happened between S3 & S4

I do want to see it, but I had envisioned ONE movie.

Well, the last episode of S3, we see at the end Jack receiving a plane ticket to Australia from Tess, and he picks up the phone and calls Allison. Then at the start of the next episode, the start of S4, we see in the "previously" scenes Jack and Tess saying goodbye via hologram with a "this isn't working," and there's numerous mentioned thereafter of how they "tried to make it work." So I'm left going HUH??????????

ditto and I'd go see that

yeah I think something got cut there. THat's how I remember it but I didn't care since I hated Tess and was glad she was gone and didn't mind how they did it. i think the 'tried to make it' was in the time jump from when it was off the air until next season, off stage

I figured most of it was offscreen, but that one clip in the "previously on" really threw me. I backed up and watched it again, trying to figure out what I'd missed.

This show is playing with my brain, anyway -- three different timelines and each has a subtly different story (and I'm STILL pulling for Jo and Zane...).

of course I could have missed something (like totally missed the warehouse 13 this year regarding Jinks)

I wasn't thrilled with the timeline shifts to be honest but I did like Jack and Allison and Jo and Zane

I still haven't gotten over losing the FIRST timeline, and now I'm in a third one.
