Fatalism

I have read numerous pro-and-con articles about Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as running mate, and watched some of Face the Nation this morning, and figured I can't be optimistic about Obama winning a second term, because too much of America is too amazingly stupid to understand what they're doing when they support Romney.

So... I guess Romney will win, and the Gilded Age will return, and things will just keep on getting worse. Oh, well. It was a great country while it lasted.

I'm trying not to feel the same way, but...I can't help it. I feel that way, too. I'm in reasonably decent shape compared to a lot of people I know, and I expect to be bankrupt and homeless. I can't even imagine what people who are barely holding on are going to do.

I know, right? Sometimes I feel like we're living in a house of cards. I WANT to be upbeat, but I never thought W would win a first term, much less a second, so...

I'm counting on the Republican Party to get Obama re-elected.

So are a majority of people placing bets online.

I'm hoping with all my might you're right. I know polls are chancy things, but it's so close right now it's hard to be optimistic.

I hope you're right, but I suspect the optimists believe most voters cast votes based on logic. As far as I can tell, that's not entirely true. A lot of them cast votes based on emotion and the candidate who seems most like them--and those are the ones I suspect will vote for Romney no matter what.

Then again, I didn't think Obama could win the first time. I hope he pulls it out of the hat again.

I know that you are listening to the Sunday talkies and the post announcement bounce BUT - take it from me, someone who has access to lots of data etc...

Obama is going to win 4 more years - all the polls etc support this. Romney is having a moment, which he will blow.

NO WORRIES

I want to believe this! ("I WANT TO BELIEVE!") But I lost a lot of my optimistic buoyancy somewhere after W won his second term. But I sure hope you're right! (I am, in fact, praying you are correct!)

The fact that W won a second term is proof enough. Mittens has found that in spite of all the dark $$$ heading his way, the Chicago/Obama team is used to bare knuckle fighting and has easily defined the narrative this campaign season.

I'm loving it - seeing Ann Coulter throwing hissyfits is always fun.

I know just how you feel. And whomever said they were doing okay and expects to end up bankrupt and homeless - yeah, I'm right there, too; I'm living on next to nothing now, and can't go any lower.

Yeah. We're doing okay. But if either of us lost our job, or something catastrophic happened, or a major health problem...

Yeah.

Mom and I were talking yesterday about how worried she is that I've already passed my glory earning years, since I left behind a job where I was making around $12 an hour with benefits, and now am making $8.25 an hour, without any, and not even making 40 hours a week.

Yikes.

I'm just dealing with the Corporate mentality that's making my job (which I normally love) more like being a brand-new military recruit...

Yes, welcome to my world. *cough*

Ugh, that has to be annoying, too.

The biggest laugh I got was some months ago -- Republicans were freaking about ObamaCare (which I count on for insurance, as a desperately poor person), and saying if Obama gets a second term, they're heading for Canada!

Who wants to explain Canada to these freaks?

I've already decided that I'll move to Vancouver if Romney wins. It's very Austin-like (except for the cold), and seems pretty cool. I'd LOVE to move to England, but that's a little out of my reach.

That does sound like a good idea, provided I could get Barb to move away from Phoenix.
