May the Fourth Be With You

Happy Star Wars Day.

Pretty, pretty pictures! They don't even look real.

It's been another week of intensely crazy. As we all have expected for some time, overtime is now mandatory, and those of us who have been doing it voluntarily just shrugged and said "We told you so" to those who screamed in fury at the announcement. But today they gave us a casual day, early in, early out; I worked a full day but got off early enough to make it feel like I'd taken a few hours of personal time, so I went to the gym, got Idris washed, and splurged a little of that overtime money at World Market.

The place I bought Idris from sent me a refund on my licensing fees. Woot.

Yellow Submarine is coming out on Blu-Ray and will have a limited release in theatres this month, fully digitally restored. I do so want to see it on the big screen! I've loved it since I first saw it on a 10-inch black-and-white television (with commercials) when I was maybe twelve.

There are actually finally movies opening this month I want to see -- there's been a real lack of same for a long while, just as Barb and I started enjoying the odd "date night" where we went to see something and have a nice dinner out. Lately we've been going "Wanna see a movie?" but nothing has been playing worth spending the money on.

Uploading the camera and found the last picture taken of Silhouette:

On that topic, I'd like to thank everyone for the condolences, the kind words and thoughts, the cards, etc. It was sweet of everyone! *clings*

How can they make overtime mandatory? That's basically just extending the workday. Do they at least give people warning so they can plan their lives?

Also, you're right. Those pictures are amazing and they absolutely don't look real.

Obviously they've given us warning -- four hours minimum mandatory next week, then the misery begins, ten hours minimum. Claims works mandatory overtime as part of their regular schedule (and many of them are on salary, which is REAL misery). But I've been working it anyway, so it's just the word "mandatory" been tacked on. I had 21 hours of overtime this paycheck. That's why I could splurge at World Market. :)

They are also willing to work with people who absolutely can't make it for one reason or another; they are aware we have a lot of temps on staff who have children, take public transportation, etc.

OK. I was afraid they were basically saying, "We're going to make you work overtime and you have to stay and do it whenever we figure out that we need it." I still think it's crazy, though from their point of view I'm sure it's cheaper than having to hire (and insure) more fulltimers.

The "not-hiring-and-insuring" problem is solved by our department being staffed largely by temps. :P Don't get me started on THAT part!

But our supervisors are really uber-cool, and doing their best to deal with this and stand between us and Corporate idiocy. For our immediate bosses I have nothing but the greatest respect and affection for. Corporate...? Let us speak no more of that! :D

I know what you mean on the movies I want to go see The Avengers and Dark Shadows (though I know the film will be considered an evil to any real true Dark Shadows.) Oh did you hear that Johnthan Frid passed away at the age of 87 last month ? I know he is greatly missed.

Well, I'm too young to remember the "real" Dark Shadows.

I had heard about Jonathan Frid; he was in the celebrity trio with Levon Helm and Dick Clark. :(

Me neither, I use to catch in the late 90's and early 2000's after school and college classes when Scifi showed it in the afternoons. That's when I fell in love with it. I do wonder if God might have been a Dark Shadows fan, for Johnathan Frid to pass away on Friday the 13th. At least h

he a good long life and a peaceful death. I know he always loved his fans, and though was at first embarassed to play a vampire, it did make his career. And he got treated as a king visiting his royal subjects when he did his cameo on Dark Shadows.
(Sorry for the double post, Jesse the 18 month went chasing around and jumped on my computer. I was also wondering how is Cairo doing in missing Silly ? And Churro as well ? I know how sensitve siamese can be. Is Cairo acting depressed or do you think he kinda of knew something was wrong with Silly and knew he won't see him again ?

Cairo's been a little needy and clingy, more than usual, but he seems to be bearing up well. That was one of the reasons we adopted Churro in the first place; we knew Silly would pass away eventually.

It's hard to tell with cats, but I think they'll be all right.

sadly my computer isn't loading the pictures, just the site but it's raining so I'll play another day.

ugh to the over time.

Yeah, they're making all these great DVD releases and Microsoft is removing DVD playing from their software. smart.

it's a nice last photo.

Hopefully you can see it eventually -- the pics are AWESOME.

Yeah, I can't figure that one out. I know "streaming is the way of the future," but seriously, a good 90% of my Netflix list isn't even available for streaming.

Poor little buddy. Even in old age, his lantern eyes still compelled you.

Yep, right up until the last day.

He was my special fella.
