2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows
evil_little_dog gave me the letter D. Mmmm. The first time I read this meme I saw the letter S and immediately thought of someone. Now I'm stumped. Let me think...
Dracula: He's the first "D" name that came to mind -- King of the Vampires, of course, although I loved him best of all in the Fred Saberhagen Dracula Tapes. I think I see him with Frank Langella's face, but I did like Oldman's performance (even if the movie itself was weak). He's parodied to no end, misunderstood, but undoubtedly the evil of evil vampires.
Dory: She's an absent-minded blue tang fish in one of my all-time favorite movies, Finding Nemo. Some of my favorite lines in the movie came from Dory, including "I wish I could speak whale" and "Know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming." Dory's eternal optimism and determined cheer reminds me a lot of myself.
Delenn: The Mimbari ambassador who took the horns of prophecy into her own hands and chose to become half-human, assuring humans and Mimbari ally against the approaching Shadows -- completing the circle. Delenn was a strong, proud female character who held her own--she stood up to her own people when they condemned her, she battled the Shadows, and she made enemies into friends, bringing together a dozen battling races to fight together. She smoothed the waters between dozens of different peoples, all without firing a single weapon. She was of the priest caste, but she was never weak.
The Doctor: What can I say? I love him whether he's a deceptively hapless harmless-appearing little fellow with a recorder or a crazy man in a bow tie, whether over-apologetic in a spotless cricket suit or infuriatingly condescending while doing Venusian karate in a velvet jacket, the Doctor rocks. I seriously have found myself saying "this Doctor is my favorite" and changing my mind the very next day when I see a different serial where the Doctor wears a different face.
Della Kelley: She's my own. She is the feisty little heroine of my first completed novel, and she continues to surprise me as she lives out her life inside my head, and I don't want to give too much about her away lest I actually someday find a publisher. I want to preserve SOME mystery.
