What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Neutral. Not Northern, Southern, or Western, just American. Your national American identity is more important to you than your local identity, because you don't really have a local identity to begin with.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Yeah, about that. I'm a bit of a mimic but I'm from the American Southwest, which means we all talk like the Man on the 6 o'clock News.

*chuckle* It's actually a line from a Don Williams song:

But I was smarter than that, and I could choose
Learn to talk like the man on the 6 o'clock news
When I hit 18, Lord, I hit the road
But it never really matters how far I go
I can still hear the soft southern wind through the live oak trees
And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me
Hank and Tennessee
I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be
So what do you do with good ole boys like me?

I love that song. *sigh*

I, too, talk like the man on the 6 o'clock news.

One of my favorite of Don Williams classics!

I got the same result. I sound like that because, while my mother is from southern Louisiana, she trained herself out of her Southern accent and thus sounds like that generic news-guy, which I copied as a kid. However, when schmoozing or angry, a little Southern/Texan creeps in to my voice. And I will NEVER give up saying "y'all."

I say "y'all" because I'm a mimic and an adopted Texan (and I have so many Texans living in my head); my Dad was from the heartland (Nebraska) and Mom lost most of her Jersey accent, although Grandma had it until the day she died. But I was born and raised out here, so it's all pretty natural!

See response above to one losing their accent! :-)

That's a pretty good quiz, it definitely got me as a Southerner. And yes Virginians are Southerner's, though those in DC would like to think otherwise.
