Wednesday, Day 77, only one week behind

These are on the Africa "Kilimanjaro Expedition":

The "Harambe Wildlife Reserve" is both a real reserve and a Disney ride -- it's sort of like the Jungle Boats, but it's got real animals in a pretty well-laid-out park with "enclosures" that are so well designed it's kinda hard to see the barriers between them in some cases, and so natural they managed to get a number of plants from Africa, like the Baobab tree (which Barb thinks may have been fake, but I think were too irregular and they didn't have any leaves in mid-November, like a real tree, but how would they have transplanted trees that large?).

Second bonus photo, the Baobab:

Yes... I'd like to think they're trying to at least atone for the wrongs that were done in the initial building of the place; it can't put things back the way they were, but--well.

When I think of how much harm has been done to so many places without ANYTHING being given back (and that's across the whole country), at least there's some good coming out of this one.

and that's a good thing. I try to convince our students just to go to COlumbus which has a world class zoo believe it or not and a very active breeding program (which is something people don't seem to grasp is a good thing)

I'd love to just go around to all the great zoos in this country. I'm proud of the work the Phoenix Zoo has done for conservation and animal rescue.

Even Sea World, for all the bad rap IT gets, has done lovely things for manatees!
