Friday was Day 39

So here's a picture I took Friday when I got home.

The pretty and poisonous favorite flower of desert cities:

I suppose 'cause it'll grow nearly anywhere (like along highways) and pretty much nothing will kill it.

Very pretty, but what is it? (I know oleanders are poisonous, but I have no idea if that's an oleander or not.)

That is, in fact, a pink oleander (we have white ones and pink ones growing along our property line between us and our immediate neighbors). They have either white, pink, or red flowers (and I think there may be purple ones), and all of them have those dark green, long, pointed leaves. It's the leaves that are poisonous.

I'll see if I can get some good shots of oleander hedges -- there are, as I said, hundreds of them here. It's an evergreen plant that requires VERY little water once established, and grows like crazy in full sun, so as you can imagine, it's very popular here. (Although it DOES really suck nutrients from the ground -- very little else will grow along with it!)
