Day 26, Caturday

Got my butt out of bed and got to work in the yard this morning, managed to rake leaves and haul junk around to the alley, and about half the front yard is much nicer looking now. I stopped a little after 10:30 because it was getting hot, so I left a few piles of leaves and came in to shower and cool off.

Read Tweets and email, LiveJournal and did nothing else useful for a while, then went out to Bed, Bath & Beyond to get a few things I needed, stopped at the Petsmart to get some dishes for the cats to replace the ones that have gotten broken in the last few months (at three separate times, by three separate entities) and there saw a beautiful tabby/flame-point I tried to talk Barb into adopting, but she held fast, having just spent a great deal fixing the car.

Then came home, ate lunch (leftovers from Friday night's dinner at our lovely local bistro, Guiseppe's, which you may have seen on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives"), then landed on the bed and slept for almost two hours.

Watched some more DVR stuff from the week; adored the season opener of Community, nicely creeped out by Criminal Minds (Tim Curry still rocks, and was UBER chilling), and the new Hawaii Five-0, which may not be the greatest, but hey, I really enjoyed seeing two of my very favorite television vampires kicking the crap out of each other in the climactic scene (and always love seeing Daniel Dae Kim). O'Loughlin is getting the hang of American television (and his accent), I think. Could be fun.

Then did some laundry and got it on the line.

So I am accomplished. What I did not do was take any pictures, so I'll use one I didn't use from yesterday....

Plus, chickens!

This may be the last remaining truly rural property in our neighborhood -- behind that huge, ginormous Eucalyptus tree is about three or four acres of farmhouse, chicken coop (you can see the chickens on the lawn), and a little horse barn with horse. I'll take some more pictures of it eventually, because I have always liked it, especially those gigantic trees that line the front. Some of have died (you can see the stumps), but there are at least three still standing (and a few more down the block in front of an apartment building; not sure how long those trees have been standing there, but obviously since before this area was so built up).

Tonight I warmed up the leftover chicken soup from the other day and made some chocolate scones. Chardonnay goes really well with this soup.

Happy Caturday to all!

i STILL haven't seen 5-0 yet

They really are enormous. I need to actually stop along there and see if I can get a picture in perspective.

I liked it. Some of the dialogue was pretty stiff, but most of the acting was quite good and the action scenes were really impressive.

i just started it. hated the opening, too over the top for me but i'm only up to the song so no judgments yet

Yeah, a little over the top...

I think they were going for that "grab 'em and keep 'em" thing. (Which, considering how long it seemed to take Alex O'L to get used to using an American accent again, I understand.)

Marsters is pretty freakin' scary, though.

yes Marsters was.

you're right the acting was good

i hate everything about the plot but i'm willing to give it another try

I tend to forgive a lot when the acting is good in television. (Or anywhere, a lot of the time.)

And I do like Alex O'L, so I'll watch again. I'd like to see how Marsters is going to be a recurring character... no body, I suppose...

Sep. 27th, 2010 02:06 am (UTC)
yeah no body. I was like please tell me he's not coming back.

i'm not sure when i'll watch this since i'llbe watching castle. maybe i can hulu at work or else, oh well

Whereas since I live with Barb, I was like, "Hey, I thought he was going to be the series' big villain!"

I DVR them both, I'm usually reading and getting ready for bed in the 9 pm hour.

And how neat to live near(ish) to chickens and a horse.

"Chicken vindaloo is good to eat
My name is Scooter
I'll fix your computer
I'm a happenin' dude
And a dope troubleshooter"

This whole area used to be extremely rural; if you look at Barb's post today, you'll see there used to be a date orchard, and just north of us, an olive orchard. When we moved in here, there was a lot of horse property around here. Most of it is now all houses, alas! But there are still a lot of people who keep chickens! (There used to be someone near our place who kept sheep -- used to walk 'em like dogs!)
