Day Nine, Laziness Ensues

I really need to get out more.

I still call this Squaw Peak, although they hastily changed the name to "Piestewa Peak" some years ago. Most of the businesses around here are still called "Squaw Peak X" (like the bowling alley), but they DID change the 51 to the Piestewa Peak Parkway.

Very tired. All day on NPR they were talking about the new study which proves that 8 - 10 hours of sleep a night is better for weight control than diet and exercise. *sigh*

Pastor Terry Jones may in fact be a jerk, a bigot, an idiot, an insensitive un-Christian moron, and many other such descriptive terms (who certainly doesn't know his bible very well), but this is America, and he has every right to be so. Which may be a shame, but that's the whole point, right? I just wish we could get it across to Muslims that not all Americans are like that, AND, more importantly, we understand that not all Muslims are jihadists.

We went out for Thai food tonight because, due to an irritating, non-emergency plumbing problem, I can't wash any dishes. Therefore the kitchen is a mess and we figured someone else could do the cooking and washing up. Red curry shrimp. Nom.

I was thinking the same thing about Terry Jones tonight as I watched the news. And then I thought that if God really wants me to believe in Her/Him/It, then S/H/I should just smite Terry Jones and all the other intolerant assholes using religion to promote their own bigotry, and make it really clear it was a smiting, and then I'd not only believe, I'd be on board.

There just aren't enough good smitings going on these days...

I had two thoughts on Terry Jones (besides the gut-wrenching disgust he fills me with), the first being that I hope someone holds a bible-burning party right next to his church, 'cause (despite what I think about book burning in general) that's free speech too...

...and that if he stirs up the Muslims in Afghanistan with his Koran BBQ and gets my baby brother killed, I'm coming for him. Endangering our troops is treason.

Anyone who doesn't like what he's doing (a good 97% of the country, I'm glad to see) is free to smack him around all they want, far as I'm concerned.

I do get torn on things like this, though, because most of me would rather be better than him than hope he gets the same thing done to him.

Me too -- I'm big on the Constitution, as long as it's a mere freedom of speech issue. He has every right.

But you still can't shout "Fire!" in a crowded movie theatre. (Unless there is one? Still fuzzy on that one...) There are consequences to inciting to riot.

Well, I understand he's yet to get a permit for his hate burnathon, so maybe he won't be able to do it after all.

I think what bugs me most are the interviews I've seen where he is spot-on convinced that Jesus would want him to do this. Um, dude?

We can but hope!

[hugs and plumbing fixes]

I wish the streetlamp and wires weren't messing it up, though! (The bougainvillea looks nice, though.)

Hugs!

Terry Jones and his people make me want to find the nearest Muslim and say, "I feel your pain. You have to put up with jihadists professing your religion, and we have to put up with jerks like this professing ours."

Yes. I always want to say "really, all Christians aren't like this! We're not!"
