  • Mood:

And just in case of whininess

Silhouette is going through a "I don't like anything" phase again, after cheerfully consuming anything I'd give him for several weeks. *sigh* But boy, is he begging. Mow mow mow mow mow mow mow mow mow mow...

Sometime last night the dam holding back the big puddle they've laughingly called the "Tempe Town Lake" for the last decade or so finally broke, letting the water gallop happily down the Salt River (where it's been dying to go, of course, since it's practically straight downhill) and leaving what remains the Tempe Town Mud Puddle. Of course, since in the intervening years it's become a real "waterfront" area with condos and marinas and other water-related businesses, I'm sure the folks in Tempe are gonna feel the pinch until they get the dam repaired and the lake re-filled (when it was first built they couldn't get the rights for actual Salt River water, even though it's in the middle of the Salt River bed, so had to pipe in water from the Colorado. Yes, my state is often insane). The dams are/were made of rubber, and they've been sitting in the Arizona Sun since 1999 (without, of course, the cooling/watering system it was supposed to have). Hmmm. Wonder what caused the collapse?

I have had a headache all day, varying in degrees from excruciating to "barely tolerable with drugs." Some of it is probably air pressure; it's been considering raining in the Valley for a while, but not doing so, so it's just hot and humid. Plus, for some unknown reason I simply woke up at about 2:20 this morning and really never got back to sleep, and had to be in to work early, so really didn't get to sleep in at all. So generally... blergh.

Plus, I'm all whiny because nearly everyone I follow on Twitter is arriving at ComicCon today and tomorrow, including the guy who runs J-List, Simon Pegg, and Nathon Fillion. Now I know that ComicCon is not what it once was, and it's a big media circus now, but we started going when it was held in a HOTEL -- and remember the year it moved to the new, big civic center. I remember when it started to get so big. But before then, I just loved it -- I got to listen to Mark Hamill be a delight and saw pencil proof previews for movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I watched anime, classic SF movies, and old Doctor Who there, and wore costumes and walked WAY too far because we were staying at the cheapest hotel on the map and... and... and...

I guess I just miss conventions, period.

I want to go camping. I want French fries. I want political commercials to stop running. Whine, whine, whine.
