Geezer? Coot? Old Fogey?

Well, listed out all known symptoms to nurse practitioner, and then again to Doc Johnson, and after careful consideration and looking at last year's blood draw, they're leaning toward it being straightforward menopause, but, because of my family history, they are checking my TSH levels because I have many of the symptoms (but not all). The Doc recommended hormone therapy and gave me a prescription, so I'll give it a try. I know there's pros and cons to hormone therapy, but my Doc says the pros outweigh the cons, and at this point, I'm willing to try. (Plus, he's been a good doctor to me for many years, and I do trust him.) He's also ordered x-rays for my hip and shoulder and they took blood, so with any luck, all things will work themselves out and I will stop dragging around like a zombie (I was so sleepy all day today; I was squinting at the computer screen because everything was bleary).

So tomorrow morning I'll drop White Lightning off at the garage and hopefully they will fix all the major things which are wrong with her, and with any luck at all, it will swing to the correct amount of money (i.e., that which I borrowed for the fixing), leaving me enough to pay off everything else (knock wood). IF our garage comes up with the same estimate as Brakemasters, then I should be more than fine.

Now I'm contemplating all the cookies in the kitchen, although I shouldn't -- I've been really good and actually lost four pounds in the last three weeks, a good start on my goal of reaching 150 pounds by my birthday. Just under two months to go.

Am I the only person who thinks Cougar Town is a laughless snooze-fest? Why do shows that leave me totally meh get so many accolades from TV Guide?

You have my sympathy, though many people get through mental-pause with far less trouble than I had. And I thought the very concept of Cougar Town was idiotic and never even watched. Does TV Guide actually think it's decent? ::watches TVG sink in my estimation::

I thought it was going swimmingly, but it's been going for months with no relief in sight, so... we shall see.

I tried to watch a couple of times and found it so banal and lacking in humor I couldn't figure out what was so great about it. I tried again after Matt Roush (whom I usually agree with) gave it a glowing review (he mentioned it again this week in his Emmy overview, which made me make the comment). But... meh. I like sitcoms which make me laugh (that being the point of the "com" syllable). So it gets renewed and the glowingly hilarious "Better Off Ted" gets the axe. I'll never understand ABC.

Was BoT the one about the guy who went with his wife? fiancee? to her parents' house and ended up in a diaper? If not, I don't even know what show it is. The only sitcoms I like are 30 Rock and The Big Bang Theory.

Good God, no! That was, I think, called Worst Week, and it was... meh. At least funnier than Cougar Town, but no great loss.

No, Better Off Ted was... well, thoroughly and completely unique in every way. It was an office comedy skewed through a bizarre lens. I can't even think of any way to describe it to do it justice. There are still clips at ABC.com, which are still hilarious.

I hope the complete series comes out on DVD. I need to watch it all again. It was the funniest thing on television since Arrested Development was canceled.

That said, I am delighted that TBBT has proved to be as popular as it has. When I first fell in love with it I thought sure no one would get it (but there are more of us nerds and geeks than I think they realize out here).

there are some herbal supplements that might help, soy in particular provided you don't have estrogen sensitive breast cancer in the family

Not that I KNOW of, anyway...

I went through/am going through this for the last 4 years. I don't take any hormones (makes my bp rise like woah).

I've tried all the herbal crap and found that melatonin really helps me with the not sleeping thing. Summer is always worse for me as we have no central A/C and I MUST have a fan blowing on me all the time.

Good luck!

Four years?!? Eeg, and I thought I was being whiney since it's lasted about eight months!

I should try melatonin again. Advil PM works good, but I hate taking it during the week since it makes it hard to wake up.
