Aieeeeeeeeeeeee

So this morning I was puttering around, cleaning off my desk, and I found the free Windows 7 Upgrade that came with my new computer. So I thought, "I should finally do this," and I sat down to do just that. I got my pile of CDs and started the backup, at about 9:30 or so.

It is now nearly 8:30 at night. Twenty one discs (with two "device errors"). The green progress bar? About a third finished. I didn't realize it was more than a one day task!

So I finally dug out the old computer just so I could read some tweets, click some dragons, and catch up on LJ. ARGH.

Although apparently, sitting around all day doing nothing has done something to my back, because it's killing me. (Well, I have watched most of what I had backed up on Tivo, the first eight episodes of Season 5 of Deep Space Nine -- "Trials & Tribbleations," whee!!! -- and Doctor Who; The Pandorica Opens, WOW. Can't wait for next week!!!)

Yesterday we went to see the matinee performance of In The Heights, which was pretty awesome. I enjoyed it tremendously, although I missed some of the lyrics, so I'm going to have to read the libretto sometime. (And pick up the cast recording, too.) After the show we had dinner at the Ethiopian place in Tempe (Lalibela's), MAJOR yummy!

Then we went to framefolly's place for a couple of games of WII bowling (I bowl MUCH better with the Wii than I ever have in a bowling alley; in fact, it's been a long time since I actually bowled, and I'm not sure my arm can take it). We had lovely wine and brownies, and all in all it was an awesome day.

I really wish I had known how long this was going to take. *sigh* At least I do still have the backup computer.

Adopt one today! * Adopt one today! * Adopt one today! * Adopt one today! * Adopt one today!

I use XP and also got a free upgrade to 7, but after reading this and hearing from other people how everything had to be un- then reinstalled? It's XP for me forever. *g*

Well, I've started the upgrade, and it SAYS that if you choose correctly (upgrade, not re-install) that it saves all your personal information and settings. So... *crossed fingers* I'm doing that, because of course the backup errored out again in the night. (Apparently one should not shut the laptop when it asks for the next disc, after all.)

Update: It's all installed, and everything's working fine. I don't seem to have to re-install anything; all my settings and files and everything are all here (I haven't checked iTunes yet, but the program itself appears to be there). And so far... am liking Windows 7! (*fingers crossed*)
