Cribbed from a friend's LJ

1. Take five (random!) books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph:

I am afraid. "Now," said he, when the lama had come to an anchor in the inner courtyard of a decent Hindu house behind the cantonments, "I go away for a while--to--to buy us victual in the bazar. Do not stray abroad till I return." I fled to the company of the most beautiful woman in the world and had a very interesting conversation. It was a pulsing not only about her but in her as well, as though the rhythm of her heart and lungs was no longer her own but was being worked by some outside force. When they tried to detach this skeleton from the one it embraced, it crumbled to dust.

1. Barrayar by Lois McMaster Bujold
2. Kim by Rudyard Kipling
3. The Story of the Stone by Barry Hughart
4. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
5. The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo
