Management.... it is a puzzlement

Today they announced who had been selected for our permanent new supervisor.

It's the woman everyone asked (in some cases, begged) not be put in the position. She is the reason I am in this unit. She is, in fact, the reason almost HALF of us are in this unit, we were leaving the one she used to be in charge of. She is the reason I had so much stress I had that TMJ problem for over a year (that kept being misdiagnosed as an ear infection, since that's where the pain was). She is generally good at organizing and such, but MISERABLE at people skills; she is petty and nitpicky, and has been known to stick to Corporate Rules Uber Alles, which means NO non-corporate approved desktop photos, NO tape on the overhead bins, NO radios (headphones or not -- as some may remember, the reason I left Word Processing), etc., etc. This can get particularly galling when we travel to the other departments, where they flaunt these rules as much as we do now.

The maintenance guys, who were her last unit, are reportedly celebrating this change. I already checked the available openings; alas, they timed this announcement perfectly -- we just completed the Employee Satisfaction Survey AND the position of the Department Secretary posting was on its final day, leaving me no time at all to prepare a submission for the post. The only other position open right now is over in Legal, and would be no change at all for me money-wise (and as I've said, the main reason for me to leave this position would be for more money, because, damn it, I LIKE my job!).

My unit is very much down in the dumps, aware that Upper Management apparently did this to us on purpose, since we DID let them know our preferences. Or maybe they'd already made up their minds. Who knows? In any case, we said we'd "give it a chance," but a couple of the women are already talking about early retirement, something I can't even consider -- one was planning on retiring next year, now she says she can go in six months; another dropped her plans from another ten years at work to four years.

On the other hand, I have survived Bungee Bosses before... I wish they'd given us Dan back. I miss having a supervisor I actually was comfortable talking with...

As a relief from that, humor.

For any of the people actually reading, I'll post another chapter as soon as I can get to a decent copy, since all I have here is Word and it played havoc with my formatting when I tried to transfer it over.

oh ugh. I'm so sorry. Having gotten stuck with someone we were asking to have FIRED, I know the feeling

Ugh. Thanks. At least I have this week to gear up, since she won't start until Monday.

one of my coworkers' plan of attack is to follow this woman's whims to the letter with daily and frequent updates just to annoy the shit out of her

I don't know if that's my style, but it's not bad... *g*

my style was more avoidance but the other plan worked. some of the shit was stopped b efore this woman could get on a real roll

I'll probably do some avoidance, but since I'm the secondary lead worker, there's going to have to be some interaction.

Hopefully I can keep my head level and not get too emotional...

good luck. I failed at that (when she accused me of causing the problem that SHE caused)

That's awful! Is there anyone with seniority and nothing to lose (maybe the woman retiring in 6 months) who can ask management why they made this choice?

On a lighter note, I sent you and rahirah an e-mail. I'm trying to lure you to the dark side, LOL!

I think the woman who's retiring in October asked, but she didn't look pleased with the response (we have a unit that consists mainly of very long-time employees nearing retirement and brand-new hires, with just a few of us in the middle). My guess is they looked at where every supervisor HAS worked and where they SHOULD work, and probably decided that since we're already the top imaging unit in the company, she can't do us much harm (wrong!) and it was our "turn" to have her. (Why she even remains is a mystery to me, other than the fact that nearly every member of her family works for the company and it's general good-old-boy company nepotism.)

Ah, and to the email... well, yes... *g*

But just think how interested in them Cairo is! That can't be good...

I just hope she's mellowed enough to allow us our music. I would go completely mad shortly if that were taken away (that was the last straw back in word processing; I was able to roll with her punches until she took my music away, then I was GONE).

No photos and no headphones?!?! That is CRUEL AND UNUSUAL.

It's a slim possibility, but I hope a miracle happens and she doesn't end up leading your dept after all.

And if she does, I hope there will somehow arise a fun and successful resistance movement.

Well, I tell myself that it HAS been six years since I worked under her, so maybe she's changed; maybe they've "spoken to her" about the unrest in her departments. I can but hope.

How awful! I'm sorry the Boss of Evil followed you to your new haven. I suppose you can wait it out and hope another opening becomes available. :/

That's what I'm thinking. If it does become intolerable, I'll go to HR and say "find me another position so I don't have to leave the company" and they likely will (I've seen that happen before).

Oh, that sucks.

[sends good thoughts and hugs]

Thanks, and hugs!

Oh, argh. I sympathize greatly, and wish you success in keeping your cool until you can get out from under her thumb.
