On the road to Bakersfield

My mammogram is clean. Apparently they just didn't squash me enough. (Women in the waiting room were expressing the sincere belief that only a man could have invented the mammo machine.)

For two days in a row there has been a red-tailed hawk perched on the very top of the steeple of the LDS church that stands just south of Oak on 40th Street.

I coughed up the bucks and bought a Bissell Little Green carpet cleaner. I think it will eventually be a much better buy than endless cans of Resolve, considering the barfing of certain cats.

I was about to swoop in and bid in a set of copper jewelry (which included the exact chain I wanted) but eBay informed me I wasn't a member of Paypal(!). By the time I'd logged into my Paypal account, too, the auction was over. Growl. So I shopped around and am now watching a couple of other auctions (including a few which have nothing to do with copper chains, like the really awesome Megalodon tooth necklace and the black pearl solitaire...).

I'm not sure which of the two stories I have lounging around in my head that I'm going to do for NaNo. I have a vague idea about magic and mayhem in the Arizona mountains or more vampire fun in the Caribbean. the former is probably a better overall "saleable" tale, although I think it'll land as YA if I finish it.

Hurray for a clean mammo! Wtf was eBay's problem? Why did you have to log into PayPal before you could bid? And...I actually thought you were going to Bakersfield. ::is dumb::

I got this message that said "This seller only accepts PayPal and you do not have a PayPal account!" with a "if you have a PayPal account, link now!" message -- it was strange, and I've never seen anything like it before. It did the seller out of a higher price on his item, for one thing (he sold that copper set for only $10, and I was bidding up to $15), and it was totally unnecessary since you can always log into PayPal later. But whatever, I guess that's one of the many many new changes on eBay (some of which I like, such as the countdown clock).

I've just been using Bastard Sons lyrics for titles, and I just switched from "Borderline of the Heart" to "The Road to Bakersfield." They may have only released four albums in the last decade, but the quality of Mark Stuart's lyrics is astounding...

It's one of the many new features on eBay, I am guessing - looks like a seller can specify "only Paypal customers" and in that case, you must have your Paypal account LINKED to your eBay account in order to bid. I would have liked to have known that in advance, though...

I need more action for the YA story; I know the outline pretty well in my head, so I might be able to churn out the 50,000 and then work on polishing and editing. The other one would be another sort of "Vampire and Me" story, only taking place several years post-"Ring of Fire" instead of before.

i was wondering i f it was something like that. I'll keep that in mind.

I think you've mentioned both of these to me before. I really liked the YA Arizona magic one (not that I dislike the vampire one mind you)

Is wondering if i shouldbe ploting out more for my steampunk thing
Sep. 13th, 2009 04:42 pm (UTC)
As I said, the YA one would probably be far more marketable, but since I'm going to be ON a cruise, I know where my mind will be (not in the Arizona desert!)...

being on site sure IS helpful and hey i'mnot sure i've ever seen a vampire on a cruise other than that other story yuo wrote and that was less cruise than transport between countries...

Sean Patrick was a little iffy about the proposition himself, but Matt and Cody talked him into going...

is this pre-Della?
Sep. 13th, 2009 09:53 pm (UTC)
Oh, no. This would be set maybe six, ten years after Ring of Fire; I haven't decided the exact timeline on this one; by rights it should be only a couple years after, but I keep thinking Matt & Cody have several kids, so that would put it at least a few years.

Sep. 14th, 2009 01:56 am (UTC)
Ah, are the kids on the trip too?
Sep. 14th, 2009 02:15 am (UTC)
No, it's a "get away from the kids" trip for Mom and Dad. Plus, it's something like their sixth or seventh cruise, so I know by this time they're old hands.

See, if ever finish the followup to RoF, it's one of those "a happy ending depends on where you end the story" stories... *g*

ah I see and yes parents do deserve vacations away from the kidlets

Sep. 13th, 2009 04:40 pm (UTC)
Oh, oh, SUCH gluttony! I'm still not hungry! X-D

It's so fun going to dim sum with you! I tried more things I've never tried! *dancing*
