I am a Trekkie!

And very proud of the fact.

Star Trek movie, no spoilers: Easily the best Star Trek film since The Wrath of Khan (whose mythos were not forgotten!). EASILY. I was full of so much bounce, squee, and joy at the end when I heard those oh-so-familiar notes from the original theme...!!! *geek joy*

Superior casting. I was uncertain about Chris Pine just on visuals, but I agree with the NY Times reviewer who said he managed to capture the essence of Shatner's Kirk without being an imitator. He renewed my love of Kirk within ten minutes. Also, Simon Pegg's Scotty? Brilliant! I also very much loved McCoy (always did!), although Barb said the actor tried too hard.

In other words, I are very happy.

I loved it! I really especially loved this Kirk -- I didn't think I'd like him, but I really, REALLY did!!!

It's a fascinating turn for Star Trek, and it worked SO well. I'm veyr impressed and happy.

No, he's really good. In fact, I think all of them are really good, some better than others, but still, really, realy good.

I didn't have as strong a reservations about Pine as a lot of people seemed to be expressing, but I definitely had my doubts.

I was going to say that I disagreed with Barb about McCoy, but then I realized, that of all of them, he was the only one who struck me as trying at all... not all the time, but there were a couple of moments where I was nudged out of the story just enough to notice.

But it was only a nudge. And he was still a heckuva a lot of fun at the role!

But the point I was going to make was, I wasn't so worried about the looks, because IMHO the only one who needed to resemble the person he was replacing was Quinto, since he would have scenes with his older self.

But over all, yes, I liked it. Really, really liked it.

Thrusters at full!

Yeah, to all of that.

Quinto was excellent (although his voice not deep enough, really, but still, excellent), and I just liked everyone very much. The only quibble I had was if Chekov was an ensign THEN, then how in God's name could he STILL be an ensign years later...??? (Especially when he was obviously so good at what he did?)
