Part the First:
I stood in the foyer of our condo. I could smell human blood, children, and knew Matt and Cody were here with their family. It was my ill luck that Matt saw me first.
His dark expression still frightened me even though I was stronger than him. “What are you doing here?”
“I live here.” It was a frivolous response and it made him even madder. I didn’t care.
“I know how to kill a vampire.”
“I don’t want to hurt him. I just want to see him.”
“If he sees you, you’ll hurt him. Go away. Don’t come back.”
Part the Second:
He walked to the patio. I shuddered. Indirect sunlight didn’t burn, but I still hated it. I didn’t understand how he could bear it. I still followed.
“You’re lucky. We just got back,” he said. “They took me on a cruise.”
“That seems dangerous,” I said, alarmed.
“You’d be surprised how vampire-friendly a cruise ship can be. You?”
Small talk was better than no talk. “I was in Rome,” I said. “I missed you.”
“Then don’t leave.”
I wanted to ask him to come with me, but I knew the answer. He’d been there, done that, before I was born.
Three rock eggs later and I still don't have a geode dragon. (Of course, all the black dragons and I still don't have one of the different ones.)
