In which I'm a little let down

Okay, I didn't expect to actually sell my book to the first publisher I sent it to, but it's STILL a bit of a letdown to get the rejection slip (even a nicely-worded, personalized one). *sigh* I would like to really thank nutmeg3 for the assistance, though. It was muchly appreciated! Ho, forth to the next hurdle.

In the meantime, nothing new on the writing front.

I have jury duty tomorrow. Yay. [/sarcasm] There are five people out at my office already. I'm sure they'll just LOVE me tomorrow! (hee hee)

I gained a few (okay, more than a few) pounds the last week - oops. I have to be more careful. Still a week left of the holidays, though!

Oh, yeah! Christmas haul: Mom gave me some shirts, a Fossil wallet, and some cash; from my lovely S.O. I received a Cuisinart food processor (the 11-cup one, to replace the old $5 one we got at a yard sale that finally bit the big one this year), a washable suede jacket (which, coincidentally enough, matches the shirts Mom sent me pretty perfectly), and the first season of Animaniacs. The in-laws sent several books (including the Ninth Doctor Who Shooting Scripts), Barb's mom got me a Blue Willow hatpin holder (with several antique hatpins) and got us both a set of Waterford Crystal champagne flutes. Gift-giving not finished yet, as we exchange gifts with sillymagpie traditionally on New Year's Eve.

Menu: We had a peach jam-glazed ham, mashed potatoes w/cheese, gravy, yams, green beans w/bacon, and a fennel/apple slaw with a mustard vinaigrette that was quite tasty. Then there was a blackberry pie (rahirah) and a pumpkin pie (me). I took sillymagpie's advice and tried the Joy of Cooking's pastry crust, and for the first time I was able to make a light, flaky crust that DIDN'T collapse and break into a million pieces when I transferred it to the pan! Yay, me! It's really the best pumpkin pie I think I've ever made.

So, a little let down, but on the whole... things aren't too bad, I suppose.
