In which I'm not doing very much

There is a raging lightning storm going on outside my window. This after the weatherman assured us in Phoenix that storms would not begin until tomorrow or Tuesday (which meant I wasn't expecting them at all). I can hear the thunder now (I've been seeing intermittent lightning for about an hour). I suppose I won't be able to get the dog to go outside at all now (I had my doubts about me being able to coax him out under the best of circumstances - that's usually rahirah's job).

I'm watching a cool show on meteors/meteorites on the History Channel right now. Very cool, meteorite rocks. It makes me want to go out and get a metal detector and head out for the desert. They said small meteorites hit the Earth once every ten hours! (I've lived more than twenty-five years in Arizona and never been to Meteor Crater. We really need to get up there.)

I saw someone else who was at WriterCon already heading out, posting from the airport - I realized suddenly that, duh, it's three hours later there - who posted that the wireless was spotty at the con hotel, so I can assume that's why I never heard from my roving partner in all this time. She comes in late tomorrow night, so hopefully they'll have something fun to do tomorrow. Hopefully all went well.

Ack. I just swallowed a cherry pit. (Very good cherries this year.)

I have to work tomorrow and Tuesday, and then I'm off until August 7. Whoo hoo!

Today was the third day in a row with record-breaking heat in Phoenix, I believe it was 114, 113, and 113, respectively. I still managed to get the laundry done today (one thing about high heat is the clothes on the line dry REALLY fast), and did get over to the gym for a little while. I actually managed twenty minutes on the cross-country ski machine, which isn't easy. I was pleased with myself. I did not get the driveway cleaned, but seeing those temperatures, I don't think anyone will say I was wrong. I did clean the living room (although I'll have to vacuum again, since the dog tends to leave a layer of black hair and dust on the rug whenever he's inside). All in all, a pretty reasonably accomplished day, even though I slept for most of the morning, just 'cause I could. At least, until the cats decided it was REALLY time for me to be up.

ETA: Shortly after finishing this post, it started to pour. Absolutely pour - a real, old-fashioned Arizona monsoon, with lots of lightning and thunder. I opened the door and watched a moment, then commented to Sam, "I hope we don't lose power." Immediately, the power went out. It was barely a blip, and everything came right back on, but it felt very like a *knock wood* moment, as the fates laughed at me.

Hee hee.

Well, it only rained about fifteen minutes, but it was some SERIOUS rain while it lasted.
