In which I ramble

Note to self:

Always remember to check the formatting when transferring WordPerfect files into Word docs.

I have packaged up my manuscript and sent it away in the mail, although I notice NOW that my page numbers didn't save properly in the Word document. Argh. And, oh, ARGH.

The very day I put said package in the mail I received some VERY excellent commentary from kehf, pointing out to me some really egregious mistakes I should have caught even once in my 5,000+ reads of the thing. Of course, now I'm neatly in the middle of that doubt/hubris place where on the one hand, it sucks; on the other hand, it's really good, I know it is.

I'm skeered.

Hey, they changed the time on my soap (I know, it's junk, I can't help myself) for Thursday because of golf. I suppose I should check every day but it moves a lot better when I watch several episodes at once. I'm sure I missed Something Very Important in today's episode. That always happens when I miss one. (Yeah, I know, they'll recap. It's not like I even watch it THAT closely...)

Gakked from fenchurche:

Presenting: Wasted Time!

1) How old do you wish you were?

I never really think much about ages. I barely remember what age I am and have to count up from my year of birth (seriously).

2) Where were you when 9/11 happened?

I was at work, listening to the morning radio on my headphones. I was still in Word Processing, still on the very early 5:45 shift. Since I was about the only person who could listen to both the radio and the dictaphone at the same time, I knew about it before anyone else. It happened at about 6 in the morning here; I was listening to the reports of the first Tower being hit when one of the girls came to ask me a question, and I told her what was happening. Then the second one hit.

3) What do you do when vending machines steal your money?

Mostly, meh. I very rarely go bother anyone about it.

4) Do you consider yourself kind?

I like to think so, but I have a real impatient streak that sometimes gets the best of me.

5) If you had to get a tattoo, where would it be?

I'd like to have one of those Celtic knot armbands, if my arms were thinner.

6) If you could be fluent in any other language, what would it be?

Spanish or Japanese, I think. Spanish out of location practicality, Japanese for sound and personal interest.

7) Do you know your neighbors?

Sort of. We at least know our immediate next-door neighbors.

8) What do you consider a vacation?

Being at home is just as good as going somewhere, a lot of the time. Any good trip out of town.

9) Do you follow your horoscope?

Not really. I read it sometimes, but don't put a great deal of stock in it.

10) Would you move for the person you loved?

Yes, if my person would ever consider moving. *g*

11) Are you touchy feely?

Yeah, kinda. Probably too much so.

12) Do you believe that opposites attract?

I suppose it depends on just HOW opposite they are.

13) Dream job?

Writer.

14) Favorite channel(s)?

Food Network, probably; I used to have many more (Cartoon Network, Nick @ Night, TVLand, etc., but they've gotten lame in the last few years). I more have favorite shows I move around to rather than a favorite channel anymore.

15) Favorite place to go on weekends?

Hanging out at home, mostly.

16) Showers or Baths?

I love baths. The bigger and deeper the tub, the better (although I find since I've lost weight even our tub isn't too horrible, although it takes forever to drain). I love taking baths in hotels.

17) Do you paint your nails?

Sometimes, although not a lot lately.

18) Do you trust people easily?

Oh, yeah.

19) What are your phobias?

Walking/moving backwards, getting shots (of any kind), big bugs.

20) Do you want kids?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I occasionally think I'm way too selfish for children; I can barely take care of a dog.

21) Do you keep a handwritten journal?

No, never really could. My handwriting is appalling, and as evidenced by this journal, my thoughts are not really well organized when it comes to writing anything that's not fiction.

22) Where would you rather be right now?

High up in the mountains.

23) What makes you feel warm and fuzzy?

Cats sleeping on me, a nice hot bath, good books, quiet time.

24) Heavy or light sleeper?

Depends on the night, sometimes a little of both.

25) Are you paranoid?

Sometimes. It goes hand-in-glove with my mood swings (see many previous journal entries).

26) Are you impatient?

Terribly. Especially with people who can't seem to grasp simple concepts...

27) Who can you relate to?

Readers, writers, fans (of almost any stripe).

28) How do you feel about interracial couples?

Strange, this question coming up. Last night we were watching the AFI "100 years, 100 cheers" movie countdown, and I noted that Guess Who's Coming to Dinner was released in 1967 - when, in fact, interracial marriage was still illegal in a few states. The only time I ever really paid a great deal of attention to them, however, I was only six or so, and this was because, coming from White Bread Wyoming, I had never seen a black person before when Mom introduced us to a doctor friend of hers, his black wife, and their black children. It was strange to me simply because it was something I'd never seen before (and I had seen many Indians, since we were living on the reservation at the time). I felt nothing in particular about it then, and the same now -- people is people.

29) Have you been burned by love?

Yes.

30) What's your favorite pick-up line?

I do not have one myself. I'm not even sure any of my characters do.

31) What's your main ring tone on your mobile?

I haven't got a mobile. The home phone goes "ring!"

32) What were you doing at midnight last night?

Sleeping.

33) What did the last text on your cellphone say?

I don't have a cellphone.

34) Whose bed did you sleep in last night?

My very own little bed.

35) What color shirt are you wearing?

White t-shirt with a cartoon map of Arizona (yes, I buy tourist shirts of my own state).

36) Most recent movie you watched?

I can't remember if it's Capote or Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire. I watched both recently. The last time we WENT to the movies was to see The Da Vinci Code. I liked the first two better.

37) Name three things you have on you at all times?

A ring which represents my wedding band (which hasn't fit me in a few years, since it's a size 9 and I wear a 6.5/7 now), and very little else. If it's on leaving the house, then my iPod comes along, too. Used to be my Stetson, but I've fallen out of the habit of wearing it (since my hair's growing long again and it's Too Damned Hot for long hair and a triple-X Stetson).

38.) What color are your bed sheets?

White/cream damask.

39) How much cash do you have on you right now?

I think about twelve bucks.

40) What is your favorite part of the chicken?

Breast.

41) What's your favorite town/city?

Tombstone.

42) I can't wait till:

Vacation with Mom in Vegas, baby!

43) Who got you to join LJ?

rahirah

44) What did you have for dinner last night?

Little Mediterranean pizzas from Costco, with feta and spinach pasta (we added some ground beef, tomatoes, and onions).

45) How tall are you barefoot?

5'5", I think, or 4 1/2".

47) Do you own a gun?

I have two unworking cap-and-ball .45 Colt revolvers. All my other guns were either stolen or sold in the Bad Years, when we was po'.

48) What do you prefer to drink in the morning?

Diet Coke w/Lime.

49) What is your secret weapon to lure in the opposite sex?

I don't do too much luring. Of either sex, actually. And if I DID, my same-sex partner would be Quite Irritable with me. *g*

56) Where do you think you'll be in 10 years?

Probably right where I am, unless we win the lottery or something.

57) Last thing you ate?

I went to the cafeteria at work today and had what they called a Philly Cheesesteak, and it was good, but I bet folks in Philly would have questioned it (chopped steak instead of sliced, provolone, diced onions). With fries. I should have skipped the fries. Almost 900 calories, bad me.

58) What songs do you sing in the shower?

I do a lot of mental writing in the shower, rather than singing.

59) Last thing that made you laugh?

I can't remember. I'm sure I laughed recently sometime...

60) Worst injury you've ever had?

Probably it was when my little brother broke my nose. (He didn't mean to, I'm sure -- we just fought a lot then.)

61) Does someone have a crush on you?

Other than rahirah? Don't think so.

62) What's your favorite candy?

Just about anything chocolate. I have a real fondness for almost any chocolate-covered caramel (I'm having a real love affair with those new Junior Caramels lately), but I've started getting pickier about what candies I'll eat. I seem to be off the mainstream brands, mostly. They just don't taste as good as they used to.

63) What song do you want played at your funeral?

If I have a funeral? It's tempting to consider that "So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish" song from the Hitchhiker's Guide movie; less frivolously, either Kris Kristofferson's Thank You For A Life or John Corbett's Good To Go.
