Wishes

Gakked from evil_little_dog:

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. I wish my last two creditors would accept the settlement offers they've been handed and close out my credit card debt. It would be the best Christmas present of all. Since one of them is now owned by Chase (it wasn't, originally), who also bought out the first creditor and settled quickly, I'm hoping lightning will strike twice. I have been credit-card-free for three years.

2. I wish Arrested Development hadn't been cancelled (of course, this goes for some other shows, too, but this is the only one with a fighting chance, since it's got a few more episodes to air this season). But along that same track, and because it's better than not having any AD at all, I wish for Arrested Development Season Two on DVD.

3. I wish I had more money for Christmas (see wish #1).

4. I have a wish list 9 pages long at Amazon. I wish for many material things, and many of them are listed there. ETA: (I'd put a link, but an URL to Amazon wish lists proves to take one to one's own, rather than the one noted.)

5. I wish we could afford, right now, a new living room set. And in keeping with that, all the home improvements we desperately need and all the ones we just plain want.

6. I wish I could go to Las Vegas tomorrow night or Saturday night to see Dwight Yoakam at the Mirage, my favorite hotel in Vegas. {sniffle}

7. I wish for this jacket from Shepler's. I love it!

8. I wish for these boots in the lime slush, size 10.

9. I wish for this skirt in black, size L, and/or this skirt in lime, size L.

10. I still want this, although the first edition is already sold out. Dang it.

I'm FINALLY getting into the Christmas spirit. I blame this slight delay on the fact that I missed the end of the parade last Thursday and didn't see Santa come into Herold Square. It threw off my whole season...

The link for your wishlist at Amazon takes me to my own wishlist (and, I suspect, to the personal wishlists of whoever clicks on it). What you probably want to do is click on the "Tell People About This List" button in the upper right-hand corner and email yourself. They'll send you a URL that will take people right to your list... I just wish they had an option to get the URL from the list page, because it always takes forever for the email to come through. *grumble*

This year, rackham and I finally got around to making a combined wishlist... We always have relatives asking us what we want for Christmas, and a) I can never think of anything when put on the spot like that and b) I hate just giving people one thing and then having them go out and buy it -- I'm much rather give them a whole host of options that might even give them ideas that are not on the list. The best part of presents are the surprises!

Urgh, I didn't realize that. Stupid Amazon (only sometimes). Most people I know are aware of my wish list, and two of the people I would LOVE to refer to it don't use computers (mom and mom-in-law). They're always pinning me down on "what would you like for Christmas?" and I can't use the all-encompassing "Amazon wish list." :)

Barb and I probably ought to combine ours, but hers is only about two pages (I added it up once and realized I could get her everything on it for about $300, even the expensive ones). I think a combined one would be better at someplace like Home Depot or Target or something.

Ah, see, we've each got our separate lists, and then a third list for things we would like as a couple, which is often quite a bit different from the things we want individually.

Although I noticed yesterday that there is a bit of overlap on four or five things... not sure it's worth deleting them from one or the other though.

That's right, you can have three or four now. We ought to do that...

It does help that we've got our own domain... we just created a new email account of wishlist@ and used that for our combined wishlist. You could probably create a new gmail account or something for just that purpose and it would work just as well.

Of course, now I have to actually remember to send it out to relatives or it won't really do us much good. :-p
