The Rest of Today

Forgot to mention the lovely, flamboyantly gay fellow who drove our cab from the airport to MGM. He was fun, recommended shows, and wanted a hug when I told him I was "family."

The Bellagio's arboretum is done up for summer. Pictures eventually (I forgot my camera cable).

We had a fright when Mom couldn't find the little case that held, amongst other things, her photo ID -- we were in the process of calling every Security from here to the Bellagio when I happened to drop something, got down on my knees to find it on this new, very busy carpet, and found her case, which must have fallen out of her purse and got kicked under the bed. Crisis averted (she was ready to have her passport FedExed here tomorrow, since she needs something to get on the plane Wednesday!).

We ate at the Mexican place here at MGM again, and it was just as awesome as it was last time, from the chips and trio of impressive salsas to a Carne Asada so good it could make you weep with joy (and they will cook it to order, to include the warning on the menu "may be served raw").

I was saying to cornerofmadness that I'm sort of torn on the MGM Grand renovations -- on the one hand, they were LONG overdue, some of this place really is a dump, and much of the new stuff is beautiful (including these astonishingly comfortable BEDS), but on the other hand... Art Deco charm! Classic Golden Age Hollywood! AND WHERE ARE THE LIONS?!?! I miss the lions. After all, lions are still MGM's trademark. I sincerely hope they aren't changing THAT much. (Not to mention the gigantic lion sculpture sitting out there on Las Vegas Boulevard.)

I was washing my feet after running around all over the place in my walking sandals today (they really DO need replacing sooner rather than later -- I hadn't realized just HOW worn they were before today), and discovered one of the reasons my right foot hurts so much is not just the walking, but there is a ginormous bruise in the arch where I stepped on one of Bo's marrow bones, which he had abandoned in the middle of the carpet, in the dark last night...

Ouch.

So far. The beds are comfortable but the pillows are hard as rocks, and Mom likes sleeping with the bathroom light on and I forgot my sleep mask, so last night every time that door opened I woke up. (I can't seem to sleep at night if it's not dark.)

It's doing some better.

For some reason, I can drift off in my armchair in the middle of the afternoon with the sun streaming in through the windows and the television on, but at night I can't sleep when my alarm clock light is on...

I can turn off the light on mine, but sometimes the cat walks on it and turns it back on, and it's like the LIGHT OF A MILLION SUNS. :)
